What if you took a great chariot racing game and put it in space? Sure, it could just be pod racing. But what if instead you made it a trench run on some giant space station?
Using some light modifications to Faustus Furius, I did just that:
The track trench will be linear, instead of a circuit. I started with 2 sections on the gaming table. As ships cross the end of #2, a third section will be added. Anybody 3 boards behind will be out of the race.
There will be 3 obstacles on each section to dodge around.
Every chariot ship is "archer", they can all shoot. Most only get shots to the front. I gave turrets to the Y-wings. Tie fighters got "fast", the advanced Tie fighter got "agile" instead.
Since this is supposed to be a chase, the rebels get a head start:
The turrets act like the crowd mechanic in FF. Roll 3 fails and the nearest turret gets a shot at you. Roll 3 successes and you can have a turret fire at anybody you want.
Just a few turns in and already the chaos has started. In FF chariots can "flip" and crash. For these guys, I just make them come to a halt and then start movement again (with an action).

The X-wing is really hoping the Y-wing goes first. |
End of turn 3:
A Tie fighter rolls 3 fails and draws the fire of a turret. Normal shooters get no plus to their die. I made medium ships get a +1, heavy ships get a +2, and the turrets a +3. It didn't matter, the turret missed anyway.
The Y-wing rear gunner isn't any better:
Meanwhile, one lonely Tie pilot got spun around and just hasn't had any luck with the dice ever since. He is still trying to turn around...

Still trying. 2 more fails. |
A Tie fighter gains
the approval of the crowd a shot with the turret. This one is no better than his cousin:
...But neither is the other gunner...
Game paused for work just as the lead Y-wing made it to the 3rd trench. The lonely TIE in the back is in serious danger of having to go home. Will continue later.
Here's some other ships I have. Not being up on the "canon" of later movies, I had to call in the household expert for the names of some of these.
- Shuttle-thing in upper left will be a medium shooter, so +1 to shoot rolls.
- Same with the Hawk(?) at upper right
- The Viper(?) in the middle upper will be "scythed". Supposedly they had mini drones swarming around them. Sounds like scythed to me.
- The not-X-wings in lower left get "fast"
- Whatever that thing on the lower right is gets "agile"
And of course, the big guys. Shuttle gets +2 guns, and Falcon gets +2 guns in a turret. But they also get "heavy chariot", so good luck maneuvering them through the course!
Stay tuned for more action...
